By What Authority

While those with authority also have power, those with power do not necessarily have authority. What is key is how those with authority wield the power that they hold. Paul, in Philippians 2.1-13, describes an alternative path to one that is most frequently taken, the path of kenosis, 'self-emptying' love that makes room for others. In this alternative path one does not wield power but yields it for the good of others.
