Later this year, on the evening of the 17th of October, our Jewish sisters and brothers will celebrate the feast of Simchat Torah ('rejoicing with Torah') that marks the end of the Jewish lectionary cycle.  The Torah scrolls will be carried throughout the gathered community with singing and dancing.

Scripture has this power to raise us up and this Sunday the first reading from Nehemiah 8 and the gospel from Luke 4 have the same potential.
