This coming Sunday's gospel reading, John 10.22-30, comes at the end of familiar pattern in John's gospel:  a healing, then controversy arising from the healing and then Jesus' 'theological reflection' on the healing and the controversy.

Throughout John's gospel, blindness is a symbol of our inability to see God at work in Jesus.  In our times we struggle with that same blindness.
